About this site

This site is written in XHTML and is regularly tested for compliance with W3C standards.

You get some extra features when JavaScript is enabled in your browser, mainly a language menu to let you select which languages you see the site in. Also, on the front page, Ronny's shirt changes colour. Thai tradition assigns a different colour to each day of the week.

Some things on the site will not work well with Internet Explorer, the browser shipped with Microsoft Windows, because of flaws in that product. For example, all prices on the site are in Thai Baht. Each price is shown with a Baht sign, except in Internet Explorer. If you are using this browser, please consider a free alternative such as Firefox or Chromium. (Warning: Chromium is currently still hopeless with Thai text, to the point of being unusable).

The interactive map to our restaurant is provided by OpenStreetMap. If your browser normally blocks requests to other websites than the one you're visiting, you may want to enable this frame to load and execute JavaScript.

Performance

To make the internet as fast as possible for you, here are some things you may want to look at:

• Google's public DNS.
• Speed DNS, a Firefox plugin. Just install from within Firefox and restart the browser.
• NoScript—a Firefox plugin that makes browsing the Web a little bit faster and much, much safer.

On our end, we played with many tools just to make this site as responsive as possible for you:

Firefox plugins

There are several free plugins that work on top of Firebug, which is in turn a plugin for the Mozilla Firefox browser:

• YSlow, which offers a lot of good optimization advice courtesy of Yahoo!
• CSS Usage, which points out unused CSS elements.
• Page Speed, a very detailed performance analyzer provided by Google.

Online tools

These are tools you can use without installing anything on your computer.

• webpagetest.org, a very extensive (and harsh, which is good!) online performance analyzer.
• Closure, Google's JavaScript compiler and optimizer.
  Censorship update: as of May 9, 2010, the Thai Ministry of ICT has blocked the online JavaScript compiler from users in Thailand. No reason given, no appeal procedure. The same goes for other Google AppEngine applications. Ronny's is among the Thai businesses affected, albeit lightly.
  Censorship update 2: there is online advice for requesting reconsideration of censorship, but that page has now been blocked as well.
• Smush.it, also from Yahoo!, helps reduce image sizes.
• intoDNS checks out DNS configurations and gives helpful advice.
